*Overview and background We have developed the transfer system that consists of autonomous mobile robot that eliminates the need for guide lines for robot. And we have applied these technologies to the transport work in vivo clinical inspection process. Robots receives blood samples from stocker and delivers them to the appropriate inspection equipment. After finishing the inspection, robots collect the blood samples from inspection equipment and delivers them to the stocker. Automatic charging system enables these robot to charge according to the battery power automatically and system have achieved 24 hours work. We have introduced this delivery system with 15 robots by applying group control technologies for multiple robot and precise dockingsystem with the blood inspection apparatus and automatic charging system. Since this inspection work needs precise delivery work in a time-compressed situation at night time, introduction of this system have a great influence on reliability and efficiency of delivery works. *Features We have developed a conveyance system composed of multiple autonomous mobile robots and a monitoring and control unit which is used to monitor and control these robots. Autonomous mobile robots control its velocity according to the surrounding environment and reaches its destination by avoiding obstacles if necessary. Monitoring and control unit grasps the status of all autonomous mobile robots and all transport request from inspection equipment and instruct the adequate robot. One of the feature of this system is the hybrid control with the individual intelligence of autonomous mobile robot and the intelligence of multi-robot control. By applying the hybrid system, transport system has achieved the efficiency improvement of transport without complex algorithms to each modules. We have introduced this system and we have proved that this system have availability, reliability, safety(can coexist with people), and scalability(can respond to a layout changes). ロボット大賞 日本機械工業連合会会長賞 in 2007. 14th RSJ Technical Innovations Award in 2009.
