History of Robotics Research and Development of Japan1995Integration, Intelligence, etc.Study on the Face Robot for Active Human Interface

Hiroshi KobayashiTokyo University of Science
In order to realize human-like emotional communication between human and mechanical system such as robots, human-like facial expression is crucial. In this study, we develop the face robot which has a human-like face and has ability to express human-like facial expressions. We realize six basic facial expressions, i.e., surprise, fear, disgust, anger, happy and sad which are possible to recognize and express all over the world. 6th RSJ Technical Award in 1995. 5th Sato Memorial Intelligent Robot Research Award in 1995. UBS Innovation Special Award in 2004.
