History of Robotics Research and Development of Japan1980LocomotionA mechanical model of repetitive hopping movements

Kiyotoshi MATSUOKADepartment of Control Engineering, Kyushu Institute of Technology
The aim of this work is to clarify the hopping and running mechanism in humans and animals from a viewpoint of control theory. At the time of this publication, although there were many studies on walking of animals and robots, there had been no reports dealing with hopping or running from engineering point of view. This paper proposed a mathematical model of hopping movements and a robot that demonstrates the validity of the model.
